SUMP PUMPS & DRAINAGE
A sump pump is one component of a complete basement drainage system. Interior drainage collects groundwater and water reaching the foundation perimeter, directs it toward the sump pit, and the pump discharges it away from the home. Pump capacity, drainage design, check valves, discharge location, power supply, maintenance, and backup protection all affect how reliably the system performs.
How does a sump pump work?
Water collected by the home’s drainage system flows into a sump pit or basin installed below the basement floor. As the water level rises, a float switch or other activation mechanism turns the sump pump on.
The pump moves the collected water through a discharge pipe to an appropriate location away from the foundation. Once the water level drops, the pump shuts off and waits for the basin to refill.
Does every basement need a sump pump?

Why does my window well fill with water?

What type of stone should be used in a window well?
